How to choose a dish rack

The right rack comes down to how many dishes you dry at once and how much bench you can give up next to the sink.

Size it to your household

A single-tier rack handles the washing-up for one or two people. A 2-tier rack stacks plates above and bowls, cups and cutlery below, so a family's dishes fit on about the same bench space. For big loads, look at 3-tier, expandable or over-the-sink racks.

Measure your bench first

Our benchtop racks need from about 17 × 42 cm up to 63 × 42 cm. Measure the space beside your sink before you choose. Over-the-sink racks take no bench space at all.

Go up, not out

If bench space is tight, a 2-tier rack gives you more drying space without taking more bench. Expandable racks open wider when you have a big load.

Drainage and finish

Most of our racks come with a drainboard or removable drip tray and a utensil holder. Most models come in black or white, so you can match your tapware or benchtop.

How much bench each rack needs

Every benchtop rack drawn to scale from above, on a 60 cm deep benchtop. Width × depth in cm. Over-the-sink racks are left out because they take no bench space.

What size dish rack do I need?

Start with how many people you wash up for. One or two people are fine with a single-tier rack. A family usually needs a 2-tier rack, and households with big loads do better with a 3-tier, expandable or over-the-sink rack.

Is a 2-tier dish rack better for a small kitchen?

Usually, yes. A 2-tier rack stacks dishes upwards, so you get more drying space on about the same bench space as a single-tier rack.

Will the water drain into the sink?

Most of our racks have a drainboard or a removable drip tray that catches the water, and several have an adjustable drain spout. Place the rack so the drain end sits towards the sink.

What if I have no bench space at all?

Choose an over-the-sink rack. Our adjustable over-the-sink rack stands over the basin, and the foldable bamboo rack sits across the sink and rolls up when you are done.
